A downer for Pakistan Cricket!

Dated: April 30, 2005

With regret, just as we thought cricket in Pakistan was on the rise thanks to Inzi and the boys we here of the sad news of the alleged unsporting acts of various players and officials of our domestic cricket circuit. How and why do we wish to un-earth what we thought had died away. A young player like Shoaib Malik who has decided to speak out over his teams recent 20-20 match has now made a mockery of this fashionable event.

Could he have gone through the proper channels? Life has its ups and downs and as we all know nothing is perfect. Shoaibs actions are not entirely his own fault. Again we need to look into the consistency of our umpires and officials! Yes they are steadily learning, but as we have seen this year they have been inconsistant with variuos cricketing descisions.

One has to feel for both the Karachi boys and Lahore boys who realistically have both been set up. Shoaib Malik should have been backed by his team management, where were they when it came to making such a knife point decision. As we have seen this year, the professionalism of our domestic cricket has taken a turn for the worst, even after all the over due media and marketing campaigns.

When will we learn? As soon as we are on an up, something awfull hits us back down. The PCB are upset and need to iron out the issue, Shoaib Malik has been brave enough to admit his mistakes, yet again though why need to highlight the issue to the media instead of the board first?

So where do we go from here, Shoaib must surely be thinking twice about his role as Sailkot skipper, maybe he needs a break after all he has also been under a lot of tension recently, may be then we should also look at the situation in domestic cricket where one player from one team is 'allowed' to get a century and the opposition player is 'allowed' to take wickets as to elevate their names at national level, we keep on talking on merit! but really we no now that this is very scarce. What messeges are we sending out? Lets look at this whole saga with a cool mind and please try and wipe out the dirt as it keeps blowing back into our face.

Players have given their heart and sole during some on the 20-20 matches , think how gut wrenching they now feel when all their effort are thrown out the window, again we are talking about players who may not play for Pakistan but rely on cricket as thei major source of income.

At international level we are now getting over due respect yet at domestic level in our own back yard , well i neednt say any more.
