Inzamam stole the show
Dated: April 13, 2005
Magnificent, excellent, marvellous these words are surly not enough to describe the inning of Captain Inzamam Ul Haq in the fourth ODI. He was simply amazing; the way he took the responsibility was awesome. He once again exhibited his ability to bat with tail-enders, proving him the best in the business.
The 35-year-old captain scored 60, including a four when needing one to win off the final delivery, as the visitors completed their highest-ever chase in one-day internationals and squared the six-match series 2-2.
Apart from the victory there are still few points to be noticed, and few mistakes should be rectified. Starting with indiscipline bowling, Pakistan gave away 39 extra runs mainly due to wayward bowling, even spinners did not hesitate to over step. Cricket pundits consider it a crime when a spinner bowls a no ball. This indiscipline should be curbed.
Fielding generally was good, however we missed chances on crucial junctures. Nothing is being taken away from the boys they put up a wonderful show, however as a concerned cricket viewer and a well wisher I want to see my team amongst the top.
What a pity this is that matches in such high profile series are mostly being decided by the toss. Both the teams should have even chances in a match therefore at the end of the day the better could emerge as victorious.
In the end, I must say the travelling arrangements on the tour are below par, no need to say much as a lot has already been said by many in this regard. India or any hosting nation for that matter should take this into account before planning a series.
Many possibly thinking that these matters were decided way before the series than why Pakistan agreed upon those in the first place. The answer is that a two member team was sent to India by the Pakistan cricket board before the tour to inspect the venues and discuss the logistics and other details with the Indian board officials. Later on the basis of the report by that team, the PCB gave green signal to their Indian counterparts for the series. The team comprising Zakir Khan, General Manager (Operations) of the PCB and Sohail Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Lahore spent 5 days in India, so what they exactly did? The board should ask them.
It was also reported that Zakir Khan and Sohail Khan had not visited Dharamsala, Vizag and Jamshedpur. These questions are still to be answered. Thanks to God that the team is performing well otherwise these issues would have been raised by the press.
